The Sikh religion is unique in that its temples supply free food through their kitchens, known as Langars, to everyone who comes, regardless of their beliefs. Everyone is welcome and everyone is treated the same. It is as firm a testament to equality and service as can be seen anywhere in the world. Each Sikh devotee contributes to the Langar in offering food, cooking, serving and cleaning. The Langar is their expression of the fundamental obligations of human beings in this world which is to take care of one’s fellow man and recognize that they are all equal in the eyes of God. Dr. Deepak Chopra explains the Sikh concepts of seva, simran and satsang as they apply to the Langar and Vikas Khanna explores places significant to the history of Sikhism.
