JERESSY CITY (New Jeressy): Vikas Khanna was
born on 14th November, 1971 in Amritsar, right on
the border of India and Pakistan to Bindu and
Davinder Khanna. Helping his grandmother in the
kitchen as a child he learnt the techniques of
Indian Cooking.
At 14, started caterings for wedding and at 16,
opened Lawrence Gardens Banquets in Amritsar.
Graduated from the prestigeous WelcomGroup
Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal.
Worked for Taj, WelcomGroup, Sheraton, Hyatt under
some of the most well known Chefs of India. Came
to US in 2000 and started working with a very
humble beginning. Later studied at Cornell
University and has lectured at Harvard Extension
School and today is an authority on India cuisine
in US.
Founded SAKIV (South Asian Kid's Infinite
Vision) to prevent blindness in underprivileged
children in South Asia. Through SAKIV he runs
Vision of Palate; educational workshops for
visually impaired children based on aromas of
food. SAKIV world hosts vision expos around the
world.
Vikas Khanna's "Cooking for Life" Foundation
was founded in 2001 with America's most
influential Chefs to organize events to raise
money for various causes around the World. Today
it has been expanded to Chicago Chefs, San
Fransisco and now World Chefs "Cooking for Life"
which will host events at World Wonders with
acclaimed chefs from around the world, to raise
funds and awareness for causes around the world.
The first event "The Living Pyramids" was hosted
at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on July 20th,
2006 to raise awareness for the needs of travelers
with disabilities. Today Vikas is
owner and consultant of some of the finest
restaurants and caterings in the world and has his
line of foods and spices.
Vikas has receieved several National and
International Awards including the prestigeous
"Access to Freedom Award" from SATH, previously
presented to George W Bush & HRH Prince
Charles, "Shining Star Award" from Just One Break
Inc. and Honorary Board for World Peace Society.
He has also authored several books, all of which
support different charities. For giving back to
the communities so much, Vikas Khanna is my Hero
and an inspiration to millions!
